Special Town Meeting
Monday, August 4, 2008
First Selectmen Robert P. Valentine called the meeting to order at 8:01 p.m.
Robert P. Valentine opened the nominations for moderator. Michele Fitzpatrick nominated John Breakell for moderator, seconded Joan Lang. Joan Lang moved to close nominations and cast one ballot for John Breakell.
Moderator John Breakell asked Barbara Breor to read the call of the meeting.
#1 Acquisition of land from Tyler Ridge LLC, ratification of certain Agreement, authorization of First Selectman to effectuate said land acquisition.
Robert Valentine spoke about the acquisition of the land. It would allow sufficient land to build the new dam. The land that the town owns does not have the area required. The size of the dam to meet the 100 year flood has been determined by the consulting engineer. The last time the current dam had been worked on was 1975. The sluice gate is currently just propped closed.
He went on to state that the next steps would be: 1) acquisition, 2) engineering and 3) place the replacement of the dam out to bid. He is hoping to start in the fall of 2008 and running into the fall of 2009.
Henrietta Horvay made a motion to adopt the action of the call of the meeting. Seconded by Robert Goldberg.
Henrietta Horvay made a motion to move the question. A voice vote was called all were in favor to adopt the action of the call.
Henrietta Horvay made a motion to adjourn at 8:06 p.m. seconded by Robert Goldberg.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara L. Breor
